back to the backyard… a part of her lives on

My favorite place to take pictures is right in the back of my parent’s backyard. My father also has a small, uncharted (for fear of snakes) walking trail in the back of the backyard. I decided to get daring and take the shots there.

I wanted some of the photographs to be impromptu so I just enjoyed the environment and embraced all nature had to offer; both stunning and dirty. Similarly, I am fully embracing being a woman of both beauty and imperfection.  I feel totally comfortable in my skin right now.

It’s something about having your feet hit the soil of your upbringing! Growing up in rural South Carolina, made for an interesting childhood.  I can remember scraping my knees climbing trees, watching my mother cook Sunday’s dinner and holding my own with the boys in a mini skirt playing a game of kickball. Oh, the joy!

The beauty and pain of this soil.

Both stunning and imperfect.

The life and the lessons from this soil.

Both stunning and imperfect.

The woman who raised me on this soil.

Right here on this land, she taught me everything I needed to know about being a woman of beauty, honor and dignity.
Those lessons could never be written in words. Comparable to my embracement of nature, she taught me to how adorn myself in God’s timing; perfect yet abstruse. I am her imprint and am so proud to be her daughter. I love her today and forever I’ll love her.

I called her, Mommy.

The prettiest woman I ever met.

I miss her so.

I feel a big piece of me is gone, yet a piece of her lives on.
